After licensing Groq's technology for $20 billion and hiring its leadership, Nvidia has now turned the former competitor into a buyer of its own compute systems — converting a threat into a revenue source inside its own ecosystem.

This reflects a deeper logic: Nvidia does not need every AI workload on its own chips. As long as it captures revenue at every layer, a competitor's existence itself becomes a demand source.
Can this model last?
Circular Technology analyst Brad Gastwirth said the move makes the original deal "look even more strategic" — Nvidia neutralized a competitive threat while keeping Groq as a growth platform.
The key test: whether Groq can maintain differentiated competitiveness for GroqCloud after integrating Nvidia systems.
Put simply = if Groq's customers conclude "it's all Nvidia chips anyway," Groq loses its reason to exist. But if the LPU + GPU combination genuinely outperforms, the model works.
