At least seven tech and consumer stocks fell more than 12% after hours on October 29, led by Intel, Reddit and Roblox. The trigger was not weak current-quarter results — it was forward guidance that collectively missed expectations, forcing a real-time repricing of earnings growth.

01

Why did Intel fall the hardest?

Intel dropped roughly 17% after hours — the steepest decline of the night. The culprit: fourth-quarter guidance of $0.25 adjusted EPS and $15.0–16.0 billion in revenue.
Analysts had expected $0.43 EPS and $17.1 billion in revenue, per LSEG — the guidance came in more than 40% below the Street's earnings estimate.
This means → the market had priced in an Intel recovery that management just told them is not happening on schedule.
02

How did Amazon miss too?

Amazon fell over 6%. Third-quarter EPS was $1.89 on revenue of $201.94 billion, both below consensus estimates of $1.96 and $202.31 billion.
The company reiterated its full-year capex guidance of $220 billion.
This means → a small revenue miss alone is survivable, but pairing "spending stays high" with "revenue slows" raises margin-compression fears.
03

Reddit, Roblox, Twilio — strong quarter, weak guide?

Reddit fell 16%: Q3 beat expectations, but Q4 revenue guidance of $1.0–1.03 billion trailed the $1.05 billion consensus.
Roblox fell 17%: Q4 bookings guidance of $1.89–2.0 billion undershot; adjusted EBITDA — earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization — still pointed to a loss.
Twilio fell 18%: Q4 adjusted EPS guidance floor of $1.48 came in one cent below the $1.49 consensus — and the market showed zero tolerance for a guide that barely scrapes the line.
In plain terms = all three told the same story: this quarter was fine, next quarter is not good enough. The market prices the future, not the past.
04

Why were Pinterest and Stryker dragged down too?

Pinterest fell 12%: Q3 EPS of $0.46 and revenue of $1.17 billion both missed; Q4 revenue guidance of $1.425–1.475 billion also undershot the $1.52 billion FactSet consensus.
Stryker — a medical-device maker — fell 12% after cutting its full-year guide: adjusted EPS of $14.80–14.90 versus the $14.95 consensus, and organic revenue growth of 6.5%–7.0% versus the 8.2% analysts expected.
This reflects a guidance rout that extends well beyond tech — consumer and healthcare names are going through the same expectations reset.
05

Were there any winners?

Rivian, the EV maker, rose roughly 4% after hours — one of the few gainers.
Q3 deliveries hit 19,248 vehicles, up year-over-year. The company raised its full-year guidance on deliveries, adjusted pre-tax profit and capex.
Sandisk, the data-storage maker, dipped about 2% despite a strong beat — adjusted EPS of $49.51 versus the $46.22 estimate. It also announced an 8-for-1 forward stock split.
In plain terms = in a session driven by "guidance kills," only companies that actually raised guidance escaped the sell-off. A beat with no upside surprise still got sold.
06

What does this after-hours rout signal?

Starbucks fell about 2%, a relatively mild move: revenue of $9.14 billion slightly missed, but adjusted EPS beat. U.S. same-store sales growth topped estimates while international growth fell short — a split picture.
This means → the core signal this earnings season is clear: meeting the current quarter is no longer enough — forward guidance is the pricing anchor for stocks.
This reflects an ongoing expectations reset across tech and consumer sectors — investors are shifting from "growth narrative" mode to "guidance verification" mode.
