Anthropic launched Claude Duet on October 21, a standalone AI agent app targeting professionals, putting it in direct competition with Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots — the personal AI agent race now has three heavyweight contenders.

01

What can Claude Duet actually do?

Duet runs on Anthropic's flagship model Opus 5.5. Its core pitch: it acts without being asked — monitoring connected apps, flagging to-dos, and pushing a daily briefing to the user.
Tasks span meeting scheduling, financial forecast building, and web app development, but sensitive actions require explicit user approval.
Anthropic itself flags two weak spots: misjudging how urgent a task is, and limited effectiveness on personal errands like booking flights. This means → Duet is not a fully autonomous butler — users still need to supervise key decisions.
02

How does it work, and who gets access?

Duet connects to over 6,000 connectors on Claude Marketplace, including Gmail and Slack, and supports purchases via Stripe's Link digital wallet and Shopify's Shop Pay.
It launches as a waitlist research preview on iOS, Android, and claude.ai — available only to U.S.-based Pro and Max subscribers, sharing their existing usage quota.
In plain terms = only paying U.S. users can queue up to try it, and using Duet eats into the subscription allowance they already have — no extra credits.
03

Why announce on Meta's earnings day?

Anthropic deliberately timed the Duet launch to coincide with Meta's earnings release, and used the occasion to reveal a talent hire: Karan Ahuja ran product management at Meta's Superintelligence Lab, left in July, and joined Anthropic in August to lead Duet's development.
Ahuja posted on X that he had been "using Duet to build Duet itself," adding that the team "built it for professionals and small-business owners juggling work and life."
Meta Superintelligence Lab head Alexandr Wang fired back on social media, posting a meme implying Duet closely resembles Muse. This reflects a fight that goes beyond product — it is a talent war at its core.
04

How far ahead are the rivals?

Data firm Apptopia reports that as of Duet's launch day, Meta's Muse had surpassed 14 million installs — Duet starts from a waitlist preview, and the gap is obvious.
A more telling data point: Claude users who also installed Muse saw their Claude usage time rise, but it still fell short of the time they spent on Muse. This means → Muse is siphoning attention from Claude's own user base, putting real pressure on Anthropic's retention logic.
OpenAI launched Dots last month — an agent that runs persistently across Slack, Microsoft Teams, and other apps. The three leading AI labs now field competing personal-agent products.
05

What does this race ultimately test?

Anthropic is pushing ahead with its IPO. Outside estimates put its valuation as high as $2 trillion.
Whether Duet can move beyond a waitlist preview to scaled commercial deployment is the key test of Anthropic's subscriber retention logic and monetization capability.
Put simply = building a good product is only the first hurdle. The real exam: will users keep paying for a proactive AI assistant, or will rivals pull their attention away?
