BYD on Wednesday launched the seven-seat Tang Grand SUV at 239,900 yuan (~$35,500), well below the ~500,000-yuan price band of AITO M9 and Li Auto L9, using mass-market pricing to challenge the premium SUV segment.

What exactly is the Tang Grand?

At roughly 5.2 meters long with seven seats, it is BYD's largest production vehicle to date.
It runs on BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and a new high-voltage platform; the long-range rear-drive version delivers 950 km on a single charge under China's test cycle.
This means → it matches 500,000-yuan-class rivals on range and size, but costs less than half the price.

How can BYD price it this low?

The key is BYD's vertical integration — it develops and manufactures battery cells, semiconductors, and chassis systems in-house, sharply cutting component procurement costs.
