A Texas federal judge dismissed a compounding pharmacy's antitrust suit against Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, ruling that blocking access to customized versions of their blockbuster GLP-1 drugs did not violate antitrust law — shutting down the judicial path compounders hoped would pry open the market.
What was this lawsuit actually about?
A compounding pharmacy — a small pharmacy that custom-mixes drug formulations to order — sued Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, alleging the two companies blocked distribution channels to keep patients from obtaining customized versions of their GLP-1 drugs.
In plain terms = the compounder wanted to sell a cheaper, made-to-order alternative to branded GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes drugs, but the originator companies locked the supply chain shut. The pharmacy called that monopolistic behavior.
The case was heard in a Texas federal court before Judge Micaela Alvarez.
How did the court rule?
Judge Alvarez dismissed the case entirely, finding the antitrust claims unsupported.
This means → the court concluded that Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk controlling their own GLP-1 distribution channels did not cross the legal line under existing antitrust law.
