At 10:32 a.m. local time on Monday, a fire broke out in a sixth-floor gas chamber in the corridor linking the M15 and M15X fabs at SK Hynix's Cheongju campus.
The on-site sprinkler system activated quickly and contained the blaze. Roughly 3,600 employees were evacuated.
Seven workers were treated for suspected gas inhalation; five reported eye irritation. All injuries are assessed as minor.
Were production lines actually affected?
SK Hynix stated explicitly: production was not disrupted by the incident.
The Cheongju campus is a major NAND flash — data-storage chip — production base. The M15 and M15X fabs handle part of the company's advanced-node capacity.
