German Software Giant SAP Partners with Anthropic to Launch AI Automation Platform
SAP is responding to the market's doubts about whether its business model can survive in the AI era with a major product release.
At the annual Sapphire Conference, SAP announced the launch of a brand-new suite called "Autonomous Enterprise" that integrates data, cloud computing, AI, and automation into a unified platform. This aims to help enterprise customers deploy AI agents in core business scenarios such as finance, human resources, procurement, supply chain, and customer relationships, achieving process automation.
CEO Christian Klein stated: "By combining the SAP Business AI platform with SAP Autonomous Suite, we are anchoring AI agents within business processes, data, and governance frameworks to deliver accurate, compliant, and secure outcomes, unlocking new revenue streams and substantial cost savings."

This release simultaneously announced several heavyweight collaborations: SAP will collaborate with Anthropic, using Claude as the base model for its AI platform; it will partner with AWS to enable data integration between SAP Business Data Cloud and Amazon Athena; and it will work with Google Cloud and Microsoft to ensure that AI agents inside and outside the SAP ecosystem can connect and communicate seamlessly.
Stock price down 45%, SAP urgently needs to prove itself
This release has its urgent strategic context.
Over the past year, the rapid progress of AI has led investors to deeply question the sustainability of the software as a service (SaaS) business model—if AI can directly replace the software services that enterprises have previously paid for, the charging logic of companies like SAP will be fundamentally challenged. SAP's stock price has fallen by about 45% over the past 12 months.
Last month's first-quarter financial report released by SAP provided some confidence support, showing resilience in cloud business, indicating the company's capability to withstand the pressure on customer spending caused by AI impact and geopolitical uncertainties.
The release of the "Autonomous Enterprise" suite is SAP's initiative to transform itself from "the object of AI disruption" to "the carrier of AI implementation."
