Meta has contracted roughly 1.6 GW of computing capacity from data-center developer Crusoe across two sites in Texas and Missouri — enough power for about 750,000 U.S. homes — marking its latest push to lock in external compute beyond its own builds.

1 GW can power roughly 750,000 American homes simultaneously. At 1.6 GW, this deal covers city-scale electricity — all dedicated to running AI models.
The two sites are in Childress, Texas, and Warrenton, Missouri. Neither the financial terms nor the delivery timeline has been disclosed; both parties declined to comment.

Why does Meta need an outside supplier?

Meta has already announced a nearly 4,000-acre campus in Louisiana with capacity up to 5 GW, and pledged at least $60 billion in AI infrastructure over the coming years.

Who is Crusoe, and who else is it serving?

Founded in 2018, Crusoe builds and operates large-scale data centers for AI workloads. It disclosed this month that contracted capacity has reached 4.9 GW, with a total pipeline exceeding 40 GW.
Its client list reads like a roll call of Big Tech: Oracle, Microsoft, and Google. An Abilene, Texas campus serves Oracle and OpenAI; a separate Texas site serves Microsoft; a third near Amarillo has reportedly been signed to Google.
This reflects how tight the AI compute market has become — a company founded just seven years ago is now a infrastructure contractor the giants are competing to book.

What risks does Crusoe itself carry?

Growth has not been seamless. Crusoe's planned Wyoming data-center project was derailed after negotiations with Google fell apart; Oracle had also discussed sourcing compute from that site.
This means → Crusoe's expansion depends heavily on mega-client relationships. One deal falling through can shake confidence across other clients.
Last week Crusoe said one new site each in Texas and Missouri had signed tenants, without naming them. This reporting confirms Meta is one of those tenants.

How does Meta plan to earn back this spending?

Meta recently launched its first AI chatbot subscription service — seen as a critical step in converting massive AI spending into commercial revenue.
In plain terms = hundreds of billions spent on data centers ultimately need to be recouped by selling AI products and services. The subscription tier is the first visible monetization channel.
Whether the pace of compute delivery can effectively match the pace of commercial monetization is the central test of this infrastructure bet's return.
