MiniMax Releases MiniMax H3, Hong Kong-Listed Shares Surge Over 13%

MiniMax (稀宇科技, 00100.HK) launched its omni-modal generative model H3 today, sending shares up 13.64% to HK$231.6 — the market is betting real money that this AI company, listed less than six months ago, already has a product edge.
What can MiniMax H3 actually do?
H3 is an omni-modal generative model — it can understand text, images, video, and audio all at once, and generate them together.
Its headline capability: producing audio-video with native stereo sound, up to 15 seconds at 2K resolution. This means → it doesn't make a video first and dub audio on top; picture and sound are generated together, yielding a more natural result.
In plain terms = give it a text prompt, and it outputs a short video with visuals and stereo audio — no post-production splicing required.
Why does open-sourcing the weights matter?
MiniMax said it plans to release the model weights within days — making the core parameters available for outside developers to download, modify, and build upon.
This means → H3 is taking the open-source route, similar to Meta's Llama strategy — trading an open ecosystem for developer community and application breadth.
This reflects MiniMax's competitive playbook: don't monetize by locking up the model; build a moat through ecosystem first-mover advantage.
Stock Connect inclusion is coming — why does this timing matter?
MiniMax listed on January 9 this year. Hong Kong rules require six months plus 20 trading days before a stock can join Stock Connect.
The company expects inclusion in early August, opening a buy channel to mainland Chinese investors for the first time.
This means → the current share price reflects only offshore capital's pricing; once Stock Connect opens in August, a new pool of capital unlocks, and both liquidity and valuation dynamics could shift significantly.
