Novo Nordisk's Oral Wegovy Tablet and Higher-Dose Version Approved by EU

Novo Nordisk said the EU has approved both an oral Wegovy tablet and a higher-dose injection pen, bringing a once-daily pill option to all 27 member states and marking a pivotal shift in how weight-loss drugs reach patients.
What exactly was approved?
The European Commission cleared two products at once: an oral Wegovy tablet and a single-dose injection pen carrying a higher dose of Wegovy.
With the tablet, patients can now take one pill a day instead of injecting.
This means → one brand now serves both the "needle-averse" and the "need-a-stronger-dose" populations, filling out the full product line in a single move.
Why does an oral option matter so much?
The weight-loss drug market has relied almost entirely on injections — cold-chain storage, self-administered shots, and adherence (the degree to which patients stick to the regimen) that drops over time.
A pill lowers all three barriers at once: room-temperature storage, swallow-and-done, easier to build into a daily routine.
In plain terms = going from "inject yourself once a week" to "take a pill every morning" widens the pool of willing users significantly.
What does the higher-dose pen solve?
Some patients plateau on current doses and need a stronger concentration to keep losing weight.
The newly approved single-dose pen gives them an upgrade path without switching drugs.
This reflects Novo Nordisk's dual strategy: the oral tablet pulls new users in, the higher-dose pen keeps existing users locked in — covering both ends at once.
