Nvidia Seeks Chinese Partners to Deploy AI Base Stations and Push into 6G

Nvidia is working with Chinese telecom equipment makers to co-develop 6G AI base stations for overseas markets, aiming to extend GPU compute from the data center to the wireless network edge, with trial networks targeted for 2027–2028.
What exactly is Nvidia trying to sell?
Nvidia will not build base stations itself. It supplies GPUs and a technology platform; Chinese partners buy the chips, develop AI-RAN systems — base stations that use AI to process wireless signals — on Nvidia's CUDA ecosystem, and sell the finished product overseas.
This means → Nvidia wants to turn every base station into a distributed compute node, extending GPU revenue from data centers to the telecom network edge.
In plain terms = the data-center GPU market has a ceiling. Nvidia wants to sell another round of chips inside every cell tower.
How far along is this?
Shenzhen Jiaxian Communication is a confirmed partner. The two sides have been working together for over six months, with Nvidia deploying a 10-plus person task force across Singapore, Hong Kong, and mainland China.
Jiaxian expects a prototype by the end of 2026. If validation goes well, a commercial product could reach the market one to two years after that.
The two sides are also discussing a commercial entity to support overseas expansion. This reflects a shift from pure technical exploration toward business-formation stage.
How is Nvidia positioning globally?
China is not the only front. In late 2025, Nvidia announced a roughly $1 billion investment in Nokia to support commercial AI-RAN development and the push toward 5G Advanced and 6G.
At MWC 2026, Nvidia partnered with Nokia, Ericsson, T-Mobile, and Deutsche Telekom to advance an AI-native 6G platform, with live trials and commercial validation.
This means → Nvidia is running two parallel tracks: European majors for brand credibility and standards work, Chinese manufacturers for cost-competitive hardware delivery.
Why bypass China's own market and sell only overseas?
China's telecom equipment market is dominated by Huawei and ZTE, both of which have proprietary chips, protocols, and software ecosystems. Their need for CUDA is limited.
Chinese carriers are also accelerating adoption of domestic chips, further squeezing Nvidia's commercial space.
In plain terms = Nvidia cannot break into China's home market. China is far more likely to serve as a R&D and manufacturing base than as an end market.
What is the biggest uncertainty?
Equipment built in China for overseas deployment could face security reviews, supply-chain localization requirements, and geopolitical friction — regulatory risk is real.
Nvidia has not publicly confirmed the partnership. This reflects the plan's early and sensitive stage.
This means → the core test is whether Nvidia can actually turn base stations into distributed compute nodes and unlock new GPU volume beyond the data center. That question will not get a preliminary answer until trial networks begin around 2027.
