Salesforce elevated Miguel Milano to chief operating officer while Srini Tallapragada, its top engineering executive for over fourteen years, stepped down — a leadership reshuffle that redirects firepower from legacy engineering toward AI commercialization.
What does Milano's new COO role actually cover?
Milano previously served as president and chief revenue officer. He is now COO.
He joined Salesforce's European operation in 2011, left in 2020 for data-processing firm Celonis, and returned in 2023. This means → Benioff picked someone who knows Salesforce inside out but has also seen how the outside world operates.
Board member and current COO/CFO Robin Washington keeps her title unchanged. The two will hold the COO title in parallel.
Who left — and who fills the gaps?
Srini Tallapragada, president and chief engineering & customer success officer, is departing after more than fourteen years at Salesforce.
His engineering duties go to Rohan Kumar, who joined from Microsoft in June and takes the title of chief platform & engineering officer. This means → Salesforce poached its engineering №1 from its biggest rival at the most critical moment of the AI race — a deliberate signal.
Alexa Vignone, chief sales officer since January, picks up the "head of revenue" title vacated by Milano's promotion.
The stock is down 27% — can this reshuffle change the trajectory?
Salesforce shares have fallen 27% year-to-date, in line with broader cloud-software weakness. In plain terms = the market fears AI will eat into traditional cloud vendors' revenue, dragging down the entire sector.
The company is betting on Agentforce, its AI-agent service. Management disclosed in May that the product's annualized revenue has topped $1 billion.
Whether this leadership reshuffle can synchronize with Agentforce's commercialization pace and stabilize growth is the key test for the market. This reflects a deeper question: can legacy cloud companies pivot to AI fast enough to outrun bearish expectations?
