Tencent Integrates PayPal into WeChat Pay Network

Tencent Financial Technology announced on Wednesday that US PayPal users can now make payments in China through WeChat Pay's QR code merchant network, with a phased rollout to PayPal users in other markets to follow.

Tencent Financial Technology Vice President Daniel Hong stated that Tencent's cross-border payment platform, TenPay Global, has completed integration with PayPal World. To encourage the use of overseas bank cards, Tencent has also launched incentive measures, including a temporary fee waiver valid until 2026. Moreover, the company will expand language support and on-site assistance services for international users in the Shenzhen area ahead of the APEC conference in November.

WeChat Pay and Alipay jointly dominate China's digital payment market, covering everyday consumption scenarios such as retail, transportation, and services. This interoperability with PayPal is an important step for WeChat Pay to further open up to international users.
