In plain terms = CLTC — China's standard light-vehicle test cycle — measures theoretical range under lab conditions. Real-world driving cuts it, but 1,705 km as a rated figure already opens a clear gap over segment rivals.
This means → range competition among extended-range SUVs is shifting from "enough for daily use" to "far beyond daily need." Range anxiety is no longer the category's core objection.
Shanghai to Beijing with no stops — is it credible?
Lei Jun's scenario: start in Shanghai with a full tank and full battery, drive over 1,200 km to Beijing with no charging and no refuelling.
This means → the 1,705 km rated range leaves roughly 30% headroom over the 1,200 km real-world trip, covering highway speeds, air conditioning, and other drains.
But Lei Jun explicitly said he will not live-stream a verification drive the way he did for a previous pure-EV range test — he suggested users try it themselves. This lowers his personal risk, but it also means there is no third-party real-world validation yet.
What does this signal for consumers and the market?
The core selling point of extended-range architecture — a fuel tank plus battery pack, using electricity for short trips and petrol for long ones — is maximum range. 1,705 km pushes that advantage to a new high.
This reflects Xiaomi's playbook in the extended-range SUV lane: plant an extreme number in consumers' minds first, establish the "range ceiling" perception, then retain buyers through product experience.
For competitors — Li Auto, AITO, and other extended-range players — this number sets direct pressure. Future launches will have to benchmark against this figure.
