Bernstein Upgrades Analog Chip Giant ADI to Outperform
Nashnova编辑部
Bernstein upgraded Analog Devices (ADI) to outperform with a $465 price target, citing a broad earnings beat across all segments and a valuation pullback that tilts risk-reward to the upside.
What made this quarter stand out?
ADI's Q3 results beat expectations across every segment — automotive, industrial, consumer, and communications all came in above estimates.
Communications revenue surged 84% year-over-year; industrial grew 53%, automotive 16%, and consumer 6%.
Gross margin hit 72.5%, in line with forecasts, while operating expenses came in below. This means → ADI grew the top line and spent less than expected — solid profit quality.
Why is Bernstein turning bullish now?
Analyst Stacy Rasgon was blunt: Bernstein had stayed on the sidelines for a long time because analog chip valuations were simply too high.
ADI now trades at just over 20× his new FY2027 EPS estimate. In plain terms = the stock has rallied, but earnings forecasts have risen faster — the valuation actually got cheaper.
Rasgon calls a $20 EPS in FY2028 "quite credible" and argues the gap between valuation and growth has widened enough to make the risk-reward skew upward.
How much did the earnings forecasts move?
FY2026 EPS estimate raised from $12.40 to $12.85 — a modest bump.
FY2027 EPS estimate raised from $14.65 to $16.77 — up 14% in one revision. This means → Bernstein's confidence in ADI's earnings trajectory over the next 18 months stepped up materially.
The price target moved from $430 to $465, implying further upside from current levels.
What is the market worried about?
The biggest question is whether industrial revenue growth can hold — it's running above 50% year-over-year, and the base is getting high. A deceleration looks likely.
The second concern is narrowing gross-margin headroom: at 72.5%, there is limited room to push higher through utilization alone.
Rasgon acknowledged both risks but argued the overall growth trajectory is improving and the valuation is cheap enough to absorb them. ADI shares rose about 1% at midday, with a year-to-date gain approaching 40%.
