Amazon Takes Stake in Taiwanese AI Server PCB Supplier Gold Circuit Electronics
nashnova research
Amazon is buying into Gold Circuit Electronics via private placement at NT$856 per share, totaling roughly NT$1.589 billion at a 20% discount — turning a buyer-supplier relationship into an equity-backed lock-in on a critical AI hardware link.
How is the deal structured?
Gold Circuit's board (2368.TW) approved the placement pricing on September 29. Amazon will subscribe to 1,856,308 new ordinary shares.
The price — NT$856 per share — represents a 20% discount to the reference price. This means → Amazon gets a below-market entry in exchange for locking in a long-term supply commitment.
Gold Circuit said the proceeds will fund long-term working capital. It chose private placement over a public offering, citing the Amazon business relationship, market conditions, and issuance efficiency.
Why would Amazon buy equity in a PCB maker?
Gold Circuit's PCBs — printed circuit boards, the "backplane" connecting chips inside servers and switches — go into AI servers and network switches. All four major cloud providers are its customers.
In plain terms = PCBs are essential but easy to overlook in the AI server stack. Amazon is moving from "buying the parts" to "buying the parts while owning a piece of the factory."
Industry observers note that a hyperscaler taking a direct stake in a Taiwanese PCB maker is rare. This reflects a shift: once AI compute demand exploded, supply-chain security escalated to the equity level.
How is Gold Circuit performing on its own?
August 2026 revenue hit NT$10.38 billion, a record high — up 76.4% year-on-year and 3.7% month-on-month.
Cumulative revenue for the first eight months reached NT$64.06 billion, up 71.3% year-on-year.
This means → Gold Circuit is riding the AI server shipment wave at full speed. Amazon is buying into a supplier whose performance is already proven, not betting on an unknown.
One-off or a pattern?
This is Amazon's second direct investment in Taiwan's server supply chain — in 2024 it participated in a placement by Alchip Technologies, a custom AI chip design firm.
Gold Circuit first announced its placement plan in April 2026, saying it wanted strategic partnerships with major tech companies in Taiwan and abroad.
In plain terms = from chip design to PCBs, Amazon is working down the AI server bill of materials, locking in suppliers one by one. If other hyperscalers copy this playbook, key companies across Taiwan's AI supply chain could become equity-linked captive suppliers.
